The theme of this blog

I want to expand my world, I thought one day.
I had been working from home during pandemic and felt a strong sense of entrapment without the opportunity to expand the network in person.
I thought to myself, "Okay, I'll use this time to start a blog to communicate with somebody."
The topics that I am going to include in this blog are about the art which I have been interested in for several years and reading as my hobby.
I would be really happy to know
about the someone's thought if they could respond to my thought.

I usually work as an office worker and do research in a PhD program in cognitive science at a university.
The start is about my research topic, art, and "the beauty of pictures". People often ask me the reason why I chose this theme.
So, allow me to explain it.

When I was a child, I spent a lot of time at my grandpa's home where my father's sister lived. At that time, she worked at a department store in the metropolitan area of Tokyo. In those days Japan's economy was riding the 2nd wave of rapid growth, and the department store industry was expanding its business to include art sales. New art exhibitions were held every week at art galleries on the upper floors of department stores. It was a trend, popular date course for young couples to appreciate various cultures through arts.

She had a habit of saying that 'as early as possible, one should learn how to appreciate the good things in life.' She gave me leaflets of art exhibits to hold every time when the new art event started. There were various kinds of exhibitions like paintings, pieces of jewelry particularly royal treasures, and sculptures. They were made by both professionals and amateurs from as we say 'historical masterpieces' to masterpieces made by new and unknown artists. Joining such an exhibition was a very significant event for amateurs because this is a chance for them to showcase their skills and open doors for new opportunities. I loved seeing them and I always wondered which masterpiece will be chosen as the winner. But sometimes, the work that won the 1st prize was not the one that I expected. It made me think about the factors involved when judging a certain masterpiece. I guess, there is some unknown characteristic behind it.

This question was to be my research theme.
